ANDO Akeo

Akeo Ando, born 1958. Japanese-style painter. Born in Niigata prefecture. 　Resident of Sado. Law graduate from Chuo University. Studied under Ryota Matsuzaki. First prize winner at the 1986 Nitten (The Japan Fine Arts Exhibition). He is a master of kachoga (bird-and-flower genre in Chinese and Japanese painting). He is greatly interested in the mythical raccoons that are part of the folklore of the city of Sado. He illustrated the “Tale of the Raccoon Called Zentatsu at Toko-ji Temple” in one of three editions of picture books of Japanese folklore. Another of his works is “108 Raccoons,” drawn on a hanging scroll; he continues to draw the raccoons of Sado in his paintings. His masterpieces are “Kuro no He” (a map of a cave), “Aka no He” (a depiction of pleasure), “Ao no Zu” (the sea), and “Midori no Zu” (Green Painting).
