FURUTA Michiyuki

Furuta Michiyuki Showa 31 – (1956 - ) Western-Style Painter. Born in Otofuke, Hokkaido. Currently resides there. Graduated from Yamagata University’s Faculty of Agriculture in 1979. Graduated from Kyoto University of Art and Design’s Faculty of Art and Design in 2007. Caught meningitis at the age of 28 and fell into a coma due to brain inflammation, but miraculously recovered. As a result of this incident, the style of his paintings changed from concrete to the abstract work he does currently. He entered his first work to the Bijutsu Bunka Art Association’s exhibition in 1991 and his work was selected. Afterwards, it was awarded the 3rd honorable mention prize. At first, much of his work was geometrically abstract, but he currently makes abstract expressionist pieces colored with Dadaist elements. He was a former member of the Bijutsu Bunka Art Association. Selected works include “Ramineitingu I,II ni yoru hyōgen” and “Gradēshon no tame ni.”
