Reisen Matsuoka (1943-) Calligraphy artist. Born in Aichi Prefecture. Currently lives in Mie County. Her real name is Kumiko. Studied under Kosuishi Zushi. Held two solo exhibitions. Traveled to China 7 times, and to Russia twice. Has a stone monument placed in the Monument Forest of Yan Zhenqing in Nanjing, China. In 1988, Zuiun-ten Exhibit Zuiun Calligraphy Society Award. In 1990, Shogeiren-ten Exhibit Special Grand Prize. In 1991, Toshogei-ten Exhibit Toshogei Award. Received many other awards including Governor’s Award. Currently, a Director of Tokyo Zuiun Calligraphy Society (selection). Full-time Director of Tokai Shodo Art Academy (selection). Vice Chief Director of Mie Prefecture Calligraphy Artist Association (selection). Vice President of Komono Arts and Culture Association. President of Hanazumi-kai. Well versed in gyosho and reishotai fonts. Strives to create elegant works with passion toward the quality of lines.
