MIZUNO Meisui (1949-) Flower arrangement artist. Born Mizuno Akiyo. Born in Gifu Prefecture. Currently resides in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture. Due to family circumstances she changed from a koto player to a flower arrangement artist. Her utilization of cut branches and flowers from her garden was acclaimed by people who saw it, and this led her to open a tea ceremony and flower arrangement school. After that, she created the Suimei style of ikebana and became a master. She is good at expressing social themes and psychological descriptions through ikebana. Her gallery works such as “Odoru Hitsuji” have a sense of fully utilizing the characteristics of materials such as ikebana and ancient trees. She is also active overseas with things such as a demonstration of an enormous work at the Versailles Festival in France. She has an established reputation for content that is always unique and innovative, the same as her ikebana works, for demonstrations of an enormous work “Shiryu-Taketori Monogatari” at an Ikebana International festival in 2002 and an enormous work of 6m at the Aichi Expo in 2005. Important works include “Odoru Hitsuji, ”6-gatsu no Hanayome,” and “Inori.” She is also popular for her themed flower exhibits at the Nagoya/Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Nagoya civic tea ceremony (which she leads) at Shirotori Garden.
