Hideo Nakamura (1936-) Japanese-style art. Born in Osaka. Currently lives in Kawasaki-shi, Kanagawa. His real name is Hideo Nakamura. Graduated from School of Economics, Wakayama University. Though he has received fundamental lessons on Japanese-style painting, he mostly studied on his own. He has presented his works at the Japanese-style painting section of Shinseisaku (currently Sogakai) since 1958, and has been selected 21 times. Towards the middle of his career, he changed his style drastically and painted abstract paintings using materials for Japanese-style paintings. His works received high acclaim among painters in Paris, and he was invited to present his works at Salon de Mai four times. In later years, he was impressed by the fact that Monk Toba’s “Choju Giga” and Sotatsu Tawaraya’s “Fujin Raijin” are both manga and representative Japanese-style paintings. As a painter, he continues to create new works, with the aim of achieving the essence of decorativeness and spirituality of Japanese-style painting through his manga.
