OCHIAI Seitou

OCHIAI Seitou (1941-) Glass artist. Born in Tokyo. Currently resides in Musashino City, Tokyo. Graduated from Musashino Art University in 1965. Joined a glass company (Kagami Crystal) and was involved in creating crystal glass designs until 1985. Previously created mainly 3-D glass such as craft works, but has now expanded to a broad range of planar forms such as creation of 16 thick-glass stained glass ( Slab glass ) panels for Imaichi Catholic Church, Osaka, and creation of colored woodblock prints. Since going to Europe from 1974 to 1975 as an investigative researcher on glass design in other countries for the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization, he has been dedicating his efforts to creating planar glass forms. His ( Slab glass ) work “Clear-Harmony” received an outstanding work award at the 1986 Japan Stained Glass Grand Show. Exhibited a glass mural created from glass pieces cut into small pieces of about 1-2cm at the 18th Showa Bijutsukai Exhibition held in Kyoto. That work “Glass mural Kenjinfu” (in a collection at Musashino City’s Kichijoji Art Museum) received a new face award in 1992. Many other awards have been received, such as a commendation by the Minister of Education for “Glass mural – Musical score of a woman and a glass artisan” in 1997 and an incentive award for “Glass mural – Musical score of glass and 'S' image” in 2001.。
