YOSHIKUBO Ayako

YOSHIKUBO Ayako （1945-） Japanese-style painter. Born in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture. Raised in Tokyo. Currently resides in Shinagawa Ward. After graduating from Kuwasawa Design School in 1966 she began Japanese-style painting in 1970 and studied under Makino Saburo who was an apprentice of Maeda Seson. Started training with sketches using sumi ink lines. In 1992 she exhibited at Shinko Bijutsuinten, and since then she has exhibited every year and received five awards such as a Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology award, a Tokyo Metropolitan governor’s award, and others. Selected for Ueno Royal Museum grand prize exhibition in 2009. Her works are mainly of flowers, birds, people, and stories about stars, etc. After the Great East Japan Earthquake she began to paint prayer paintings that combine Japan’s old paintings and modern people. She has held many personal and group exhibitions. Currently director of Shinko Bijutsuin, member of Joryu Nihonga Sosakukai, member of Shinagawa Gijutsuka Kyokai.
